"Surprise in the Newspaper"
It started off as an ordinary day at the firehouse.
Eduardo was on the couch watching the tube, Garrett was stuffing his face as usual, Roland was tinkering with the Ecto-1, Egon was in the lab, and Janine was at her desk typing away.
But Kylie was no where to be found. Eduardo was searching for her at one point, but gave up when he couldn't find her.
Kylie was at her apartment, working on homework that was due tomorrow, she had 4 weeks to work on it, but with her job, she couldn't find time to do her homework.
She was busy writing something for journalism. She had to write a short story or poem that reflected something about herself. She spent days trying to figure out what she was going to write, then in one moment it hit her, she jotted down the words and rushed off to the firehouse.
When she arrived, Eduardo got off the couch and offered her a seat. She took the offer and control of the television. He didn't seem to mind one bit. Garrett finally stopped stuffing his face and noticed that Kylie had arrived.
"Hey Ky!" He shouted with a mouth full of food.
"Hey!" She replied.
Out of nowhere, the bell sounded. The teens rushed to get ready, they grabbed their packs (and trap) and filed in the Ecto-1.
Luckily for Kylie it was a false alarm. When she got back to the firehouse, she plopped on the couch, with little protest from Eduardo, and fell asleep.
In the morning, they headed off for school. Kylie couldn't wait to turn her poem in. But then again, she hoped only the teacher would see it.
"Hey, Ky, what class do you have in the afternoon?" Eduardo asked.
"Journalism, then I can go home."
"Oh, I have advanced placement microbiology. I was wondering if you could help me out, ya know, help me study, cause I have a big test comin' up."
"Advanced placement microbiology?!" Kylie exclaimed.
"Yeah."
"Whoa, I totally underestimated you."
"Many people do, so, how 'bout helpin' me study?"
"Sure."
"Muchas gracias, senorita."

The time finally came around... Kylie had to submit her poem.
"Class, I just want you to know, that I have to choose a winning submission, one that I think is the best in the class. Then I'll hand it in to the newspaper to be printed in their 'Teen Writing' edition."
*Oh no!* Kylie thought to herself. *What if mine is chosen, what if it is printed in the newspaper?! Oh, get over the thought, you're so paranoid*
The teacher went on and on and on with the lecture. Kylie was in her own little world for the rest of the class.
After class, she caught up with Eduardo and Garrett, but Roland left early, so she didn't walk with him.
"So, Eddie, how'd ya do in biology today? Did ya dissect anything?" Garrett asked.
"Ewww, gross!" exclaimed Kylie.
"Nope, the class is easy, but our teacher thinks we're idiots."
"He's right on the idiot part."
"Garrett, that's not nice, Eduardo is smarter then you any day."
"Whatever, Ky." Garrett wheeled ahead in front of them.
"He's so one-sided sometimes," Kylie commented.
At the firehouse, they all sat down and relaxed, for once. No calls, so Egon was in his lab all day, and Janine was trying to get him to notice her for once.
Roland came in later, he and Garrett had the graveyard shift. Ky and Ed went home and got some sleep.
The next day flew by.
When they arrived at school, classes went by so fast. Then came the last class of the day for Kylie: Journalism. She loved the class, but her teacher wasn't quite 'all there' in a sense.
As she took her seat, she heard the teacher announce, "Class, I have selected a winning entry for the contest. And I am proud to announce..." Kylie crossed her fingers and hoped it wasn't her. "...that the winner is Kylie Griffin, for her poem 'Lost Love'. Great job Kylie, you win the 100 dollar prize."
Kylie looked up and saw everybody clapping for her for once. And everybody even congratulated her after class. She had a gut feeling that the poem would be in the newspaper that night.
She walked very slowly to the firehouse, praying that no one would read the paper. But when she got there she saw the last thing she wanted to see: Eduardo, sitting on the couch, reading the paper. She gasped and ran downstairs real fast. Upstairs Eduardo called for Garrett and Roland to see something. He pointed it out in the paper, as he read:
"Lost Love" by Kylie Griffin - his Spanish accent smoothing every word.
"When I look in those eyes,
I see worlds I've never seen.
When you hold me,
I am so warm and safe
I feel a connection,
between you and I.
Like I've known you before,
In a past life.
Maybe, maybe not
Maybe you're just a dream,
And I'll wake up,
And move on.
But, when I open my eyes,
You're still here.
You'll always be here,
To keep me safe.
I've never known anyone like you,
But then again, I never will.
I've been looking for someone like you,
My lost love."
Everyone was in silence, then Garrett spoke up.
"I didn't know that Kylie could write like this."
"Neither did I," Roland added.
"That was wonderful, wonder who she was talkin' about?" Eduardo put in.
At that moment, Kylie walked up the stairs and into the room.
The guys turned and stared at her.
"Why are you all staring at me like that?" she asked.
"That was a great poem, you are truly a writer."
"Thanks, Garrett."
"Who are you talking about?" Roland asked.
Kylie froze. She didn't want to tell everybody that she was in love with Eduardo.
"I'd rather not say."
"We understand." Eduardo said.
Of all people, she didn't picture Eduardo saying this.
When everybody left to go home, Eduardo and Kylie were walking together.
"Soooo... who was the poem about?" Eduardo asked.
"Well... the most wonderful guy I've ever met, and want to know more about... and maybe I'll help him study for his biology test."
"Me?!" he asked excitedly.
"Yeah, you." They walked their separate ways, but who knows... maybe their friendship went a little further on that day.
